I can't believe 2017 is almost gone! This means that our end-of-year showcase is quickly approaching. It is scheduled for Wednesday, December 13 at 6 PM in the main gym at Spring Creek. This also means that we WILL be having an additionally club meeting on Wednesday, December 13 to run through a final rehearsal of the showcase. Students, plan on staying after the entire afternoon. But don't worry, we'll provide some dinner for you!
Please continue to work hard on your pieces and we'll polish them on Thursday as well as next week.

Students, Today in drama club, we discussed that we have only 18 club days left in DC and writing and putting on a production in that amount of time is unrealistic. Unfortunatley, because of time constraints, we must abadon Romeo and Juliet for the time being. I apologize for this inconvenience and for any disappointment. HOWEVER, we will be having a Showcase in December!!! All students will participate in either a scene, monologue or musical theatre piece. This will be discussed in more detail during our conferences. (Please see below for conference dates). Please come prepared with an idea of what you would like to do for the Showcase. We will also be talking about Talent Show possibilities. For more info about what we discussed today, please see the October Newsletter attached below. You can also find a copy of the Committee Application if you are interested in that (Due Thursday 12th). Today was such a great day in DC! Thank you for being honest, real and open to trying new things, like "Mill Around the Room." I appreciate the respect that you all have for one another and hope to see this continue. Please be kind and respectful and I'll see ya'll Thursday! -Ms. Frost CONFERENCE DATES Thursday, October 12 Brynlee Emma C. Samantha A. Shay Alexa Emma T. Students,
In our discussion last Thursday, we talked about what we can do to make Drama Club a good experience for everyone. Some of the things we discussed included respect and confidentiality within the club as well as respect for all members. Some of you expressed the need for more "getting to know you" games that can bring us closer as a club as well as "getting to know you" conferences with myself. In an effort to get to know each of you, I will be sending out a conference sign-up times for us to briefly chat during club meetings. I'm posting a few questions to let you think about now before we meet later. 1. Your assessment of DC. a. Any suggestions? Concerns? b. How is DC going FOR YOU? c. What can Ms. Frost do to improve your experience in DC? 2. What do you do outside of school? a. Hobbies? b. Talents? c. Work/chores? d. Extra-curricular activities? e. Are you taking any lesson? Participating in sports? 3. What is your favorite musical? a. Do you have a dream role? 4. What would you like to do in the showcase? (We will talk about this more on Tuesday 10th). a. Scene? b. Monologue? c. Musical theatre piece? d. Other??? 5. What's a goal you have for High School? 6. Any questions for Ms. Frost? Remember, no DC on Thursday the 5th due to Parent/Teacher conferences. When we meet on Tuesday the 10th, you will have a chance to sign up for conferences. See you then! -Ms. Frost Welcome Back!!!Parents and Students,
I am pleased to announce that this coming December we will be performing an adapted version of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This adaption is yet to be determined as it is something we will be creating, writing, and rehearsing in drama club! While we will go over the plot briefly in drama club, I would recommend that those who are unfamiliar with the story to do their own research. You could begin by looking up a detailed synopsis. Check out: http://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/romeojuliet/summary.html https://www.playshakespeare.com/romeo-and-juliet/synopsis. Sparknotes also has a video summary http://www.sparknotes.com/sparknotes/video/romeojuliet. This would be a great place to start; it is quick, entertaining and portrays the plot thoroughly. If you are so inclined, you many also look into different film versions of Shakespeare’s tale. Gnomeo and Juliet is an animated version that follows Shakespeare’s original story line quite closely. Lion King II: Simba’s Pride is also loosely based from Romeo and Juliet. West Side Story is another musical that has been loosely adapted. There is a movie on Netflix that is just under 2 hours. Please be aware that this particular version is rated PG-13. Students, please get parental consent before watching. Remember! The script is in the public domain and can be found online if you could like to read Shakespeare's original words. Since we will be creating, writing and rehearsing every Tuesday and Thursday, it is imperative that participants be able to commit to coming to drama club at every meeting. Once we get closer to opening the show and adding all of the theatrical elements (e.g., lights, costumes, make-up, etc.) it is necessary to add extra rehearsals and to rehearse for extra time. That being said, please plan on extra rehearsals going until 5:30 beginning in December (an exact date to come shortly!) More to come soon! I will see you all on Tuesday the 12th! -Ms. Frost (Please feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected]) Drama Club Kids, It was a blast spending this past year with you. You are all very talented and hard working. I wish all the 8th graders the best of luck in high school and look forward to seeing many returning students in the fall. You are welcome to save the pictures below from our performance! As a theatre educator, I always try to look for ways to improve my teaching. If you (students and/or parents) could take a moment to fill out the survey at the bottom of this post, I would greatly appreciate it! Please do your best to match your costume as closely as possible. If you have questions please come talk to me.
PRINCESSES: You should wear a summer dress that mirrors your princess' color. Cinderella - blue, Snow White - Blue, yellow, red, and Aurora - pink. Your hair should be in soft curls. MICE: You should wear gray bottoms and a top. These should be plain gray without any writing or logos on it. Add fun/crazy accessories that compliment which mouse you are. For example, Virginia might wear a cheetah print scarf, etc. You need round sunglasses - think Harry Potter glasses, but sunglasses. LITTLE RED: You should wear a red skirt with a white shirt and some sort of red jacket/coat/hood or scarf. Hair in cute pigtails GRETEL: You should wear a white skirt and I will get you a little apron. From that apron, pick a matching top to go with it. Hair in French braids. Make sure that somewhere on your costume you can hide Cinderella's shoe - maybe a pocket. RUMPELSTILTSKIN: You should wear your white shirt with red vest and black pants. Please find a black hood. If you can find accessories to make you seem more "creepy" please bring them! EVIL QUEEN: You should wear either the red dress or blue dress. You may wear both. Your hair needs to be in an elaborate up-do, think "prom hair", but more evil. Your make up should be dark and severe. BIG BAD WOLF: You should wear fitted brown pants and a brown shirt. (We talked about the costume you were getting and that's great too!) PINOCCHIO: You should wear red overalls/shorts and sneakers with mid-calf socks. Your shirt should be yellow. If you can find a yellow hat that would be superb! FAIRY: You should wear very elegant and easy to move in clothes. Think "ballerina" and pinks and purples. You will need a lovely eye mask. PAPA: You should wear brown pants and a brown suit jacket/coat. MAMA: You should wear a "mom" dress. Preferably purple. TINKERBELL: You should wear a soft green, flowy dress. Here is the tentative schedule for the remainder of the rehearsal process of our play. I plan to adhere as closely to this schedule as possible, but I reserve the right to make changes as I see fit to help the students and the production. Please note that some rehearsals are on Wednesdays (and one Monday) and towards the end of our rehearsal process, drama club will go until 5:30 pm. This means that I need to ask parents/guardians to coordinate with students to pick them up at that time since there will not be a bus running in the evening. As we add technical aspects (e.g., lights, costumes, etc.) it becomes necessary to extend the rehearsal time to bring all of the elements together smoothly. Thank you for understanding this change.
