My name is Becka Frost and I am a senior studying Theatre Education with an English Minor at Utah State University. I was born and raised here in Utah and am a country girl at heart. Singing, summertime and laughing with my family are some of my favorite things.

THEATRE IS MORE THAN JUST FRILLS, JAZZ HANDS AND BIG MUSICAL NUMBERS…In my own Theatre career in high school, I loved those things. But as I’ve grown older, dissected this art and honed my craft, I have come to realize the enormous impact that Theatre can have on students’ lives and the role that I can play as their teacher.
AS A TEACHER…My duty is to my students. Each student is important and should be made to feel genuinely cared about. In my experience as a student and seeing the experiences of others, I am overcome with the enormity of the task that I have set before myself. After all, it’s my students who matter more than the performance.
TO ME, THEATRE EDUCATION IS…
AUTHENTIC MATERIAL…Students will always learn more effectively when the material is meaningful and engaging to them.
THE BEST TEACHING ADVICE… I ever received goes as follows: “Don’t lose yourself.” Teaching, like any occupation, is easy to get lost in. It is my firm belief that in order to be an effective teacher who is:

- I can help to shape who their future selves will be by cultivating their creativity, responsibility and critical thinking.
- I can expose my students to engaging, thought-provoking and unifying Theatre art, as their experiences in my Theatre class can forever impact their view on the world.
- I can encourage my students to explore multiple facets of learning and to become well-rounded individuals by participating in and trying new things and improving upon their talents.
TO ME, THEATRE EDUCATION IS…
- Providing children a safe place where they can come to learn, grow and experiment with Theatre and the human condition.
- Offering guidance as they navigate their budding lives.
- Encouraging them to reach high and become their best selves.
- Exposing them to Theatre in such a way that can benefit their lives.
AUTHENTIC MATERIAL…Students will always learn more effectively when the material is meaningful and engaging to them.
- I may need to explore issues and ideas outside of my prescribed lesson plan (such as current issues going on in the school, community and their lives).
- When the material is authentic and holds relevance in students’ lives, the learning becomes much more self-motivated and sought after.
